Google Alerts are very useful if you want to know more about a topic and don't want to go to the effort to spend hours at a time searching for it. You just type in a topic and Google will email you some sites that may be of interest. This tool will be very helpful in later years like college when you have multiple research papers due. You can "do research" without putting as much effort into it.
In my Alerts I found an article that dealt with being able to use smartphones on the battlefield. They have new technology that enabled them to communicate better with others on a battlefield where before they had difficulties coming up with the proper wiring to be able to do so. I think this is a tremendous leap in our digital age.
